The Penguins second year jerseys were produced by General Athletic Products Co. of Greenville, OH. The diagonal PITTSBURGH on the front was gone and the sleeve and waist stripes were redesigned in addition to the sleeve and back number font changing. The new durene jerseys featured the team logo - which was redesigned from the original logo unveiled on September 6, 1967. The circular outline was now thicker and filled in with navy blue with white letters and dots separating the top and bottom halves of the outline rather than stars. The scarf around the neck of the skating penguin was removed and the body of the penguin was redesigned to give it a "meaner appearance".
The jerseys now had contrasting shoulder yokes and simpler stripes on the sleeves and waistline. The lace-up collars were still present with navy blue laces threaded through the eyelets and solid navy blue necklines.
Inside the waistline is the General Athletic Products Co. manufacturer's tag which included washing instructions. The inside neckline of each jersey featured the All Star Sports / All Star Sporting Goods lettering tag above a small size tag sewn below it. Jerseys were lettered and numbered by All Star Sporting Goods of Pittsburgh, PA.

The Penguins began wearing Set 1 jerseys with the start of the 1968-69 regular season on October 12, 1968 vs. Montreal. The set continued throughout the regular season and was worn until March 30, 1969 vs Philadelphia. The Home (light blue) and Road (white) jerseys were each worn in a total of 38 games. Each individual jersey within the set was worn as allocated by the Pittsburgh Penguins and each jersey should be researched individually to determine exactly when each jersey was worn.
