Mario Lemieux's second season in the National Hockey League was one to remember. The 20-year old scored 48 goals and 93 assists for 141 points. His 93 assists and 141 points set new Penguins franchise records and were the second most in the NHL during the 1985-86 regular season. From January 11, 1986 vs. Buffalo to March 15, 1986 vs. NY Rangers, Lemieux went on a 28-game point scoring streak in which he scored 59 points (21G, 38A). The scoring streak was the second longest in the NHL during the 1985-86 season and fourth longest in National Hockey League history.
Lemieux was award the Lester B. Pearson Award as the National Hockey League's most outstanding player in the regular season as judged by members of the NHL Players Association. He also finished as the runner-up for the Hart Memorial Trophy as the "player judged most valuable to his team" in the National Hockey League and was voted to the NHL Second All-Star team. He played in his second consecutive NHL All-Star Game on February 4, 1986 at Hartford which the Wales Conference won 4-3.
