The Penguins wore Reebok Air-Knit jerseys - a style and cut that was introduced at the beginning of the 2000-01 NHL season - for the sixth and final season. The style was originally introduced as an Alternate jersey during the 2000-01 season before becoming the permanent Road (black) jersey during the 2002-03 season at which time a white version was created and became the permanent Home (white) jersey. After the NHL lockout in 2004-05, NHL teams began wearing their colored jerseys at home and their white jerseys on the road.
The Reebok vector logo was featured on the back neckline with a white vector logo embroidered with black on the Home (black) jerseys and a black vector logo embroidered with white on the Road (white) jerseys. The inside neckline of each jersey features a size tag with a Canadian flag logo above the "Made in Canada" in three languages (English, French and Spanish). The players number was generally penned onto the neck tag in black marker. Inside the left side seam is a manufacturer's washing instructions tag.
Jerseys were lettered and numbered by Cutting Edge Sports of Woburn, Massachusetts. Each jersey featured a set tag sewn inside the rear hem.
J&J Distributing of Ellwood City, PA purchased all sets of game worn regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs sets directly from the Pittsburgh Penguins and marketed the jerseys to the hobby.
