For the second consecutive season, the Penguins wore jerseys manufactured by Starter. The PITTSBURGH diagonal jerseys that were introduced for the 1992-93 season were retired and the gray mid-sectioned alternate jerseys became the permanent road jerseys.

The Starter logo (S with Star and STARTER underneath) was embroidered on the back right hemline of the Set 1 jerseys with a black logo on the Home (white) and a white logo on the Road (black) jerseys. The Set 2 jerseys featured an embroidered black Starter logo (S with Star only) on the Home (white) jerseys and an embroidered white Starter logo (STARTER wordmark) on the Road (black) jerseys. The Starter logo was sewn to the left of the the National Hockey League shield logo.

The inside neckline of the Set 1 Home (white) jerseys featured the Center Ice Authentic Collection / Mise Au Jeu Collection Authentique tag above the Starter manufacturer's tag which were both sewn above the size tag. The Set 1 Road (black) jerseys featured the Center Ice Authentic by Starter tag above the size tag and Starter manufacturer's tag. The Set 2 jerseys featured a Center Ice Authentic by Starter tag above the size tag. Inside the side seam was a manufacturer's washing instructions tag with the place of manufacture as Berlin, Wisconsin.

The Penguins' Home (white) jerseys were made of a lighter mesh material while the Road (black) jerseys were made of a tighter air-knit material. The Set 2 jerseys were recycled into Set 1 of the 1998-99 season.

The Penguins began wearing Set 1 jerseys with the start of the 2009-10 pre-season on September 15, 2009 vs. Columbus. The set continued into the regular season and was worn until January 16, 2010 at Vancouver. The Home (black) jerseys were worn in a total of 19 games while the Road (white) jerseys were worn in a total of 29 games. Each individual jersey within the set was worn as allocated by the Pittsburgh Penguins and each jersey should be researched individually to determine exactly when each jersey was worn. Set 1 jerseys were sold by the Pittsburgh Penguins to J&J Distributing.

The Home (black) jerseys were worn in a total of 13 games while the Road (white) jerseys were worn in a total of 13 games. Each individual jersey within the set was worn as allocated by the Pittsburgh Penguins and each jersey should be researched individually to determine exactly when each jersey was worn. Set 2 jerseys were sold by the Pittsburgh Penguins to J&J Distributing.
