The Penguins switched to yet another jersey manufacturer for the 1985-86 season - this time Cooper. The mesh jerseys featured the skating penguin logo screened onto the front, but did not have the thin black outline around the logo like the jerseys from 1979-80 (Stall & Dean) through 1984-85 (Sandow & CCM). A tri-color Cooper logo with "Cooper" underneath was embroidered on the back right hemline and straddled the yellow and black hem stripes helping to differentiate between 1985-86 jerseys and their 1986-87 counterparts which had the Cooper logo entirely in the yellow hem stripe.. Opposite the Cooper logo was "CENTURY SPORTS" - the local Pittsburgh lettering company who heat-pressed the numbers and names onto the jerseys.
The jerseys featured V-neck collars - black on the Home (white) jerseys and yellow on the Road (black) jerseys - and player names on the back were screened onto a matching color mesh nameplate above the screened-on player number on the back. Player numbers remained on the shoulders in the U-shaped shoulder yoke above the contrasting yellow sleeve color below. The inside neckline of each jersey featured the three manufacturer's tags including the Cooper / Made in Canada / model # tag over top of the size tag and to the left a red maple leaf logo'd "APPROVED" tag.

Each individual jersey within the set was worn as allocated by the Pittsburgh Penguins and each jersey should be researched individually to determine exactly when each jersey was worn.
