CCM became the official jersey manufacturer for the 1984-85 season. The jerseys were made of a heavy nylon mesh material and featured a screened on crest, numbers and name on back which was screened onto a heavy nylon mesh nameplate. The neckline changed to a solid black on the Alternate (gold) pre-season jerseys and solid gold on the Home (white) and Road (black) jerseys from the tri-color neckline of the Stall & Dean/Sandow/General Athletic years from 1979-80 through 1983-84. The twill and embroidered CCM logo was sewn onto the back right hemline in the bottom yellow stripe on the home (white) and road (black) jerseys and on the bottom black stripe on the Alternate (gold) jerseys. The inside neckline of each jersey featured a CCM per/by Sport Maska Inc. tag sewn only on the upper left side with a zig zag stitch. The neck tag featured washing instructions under the 100% Nylon composition indicator and featured the "AG57" model number at the bottom.
Rookie Mario Lemieux debuted on September 28, 1984 vs. New Jersey at Troy, New York and the Penguins wore their Alternate (gold) jerseys in all six pre-season games. During the regular season, only white jerseys were worn at home in Pittsburgh and black jerseys were worn in all 40 road games.

The Penguins Alternate (gold) CCM jerseys were worn for the entire duration of the 1984-85 pre-season beginning on September 22, 1984 at Hartford through October 7, 1984 vs. Detroit at Johnstown, PA. The set was worn in a total of six games. Each individual jersey within the set was worn as allocated by the Pittsburgh Penguins and each jersey should be researched individually to determine exactly when each jersey was worn.
