The Penguins 1972-73 jerseys were produced by Rawlings and the color scheme changed from featuring light blue as the primary color on the shoulder yoke, sleeve stripes and hem stripe with a more royal blue color. The thin accent stripes remained navy blue. The skating penguin crest was smaller than the crest from 1971-72 and featured a disproportionate golden triangle behind the skating penguin. The lace-up collars were still present with laces threaded through the eyelets and solid navy blue necklines.
Inside the waistline is the Rawlings manufacturer's tag which included the size embroidered on the tag along with washing instructions.

The Penguins began wearing Set 1 jerseys with the start of the 1972-73 regular season on October 7, 1972 vs. Los Angeles. The set was worn throughout the regular season and was worn until April 1, 1973 vs. Philadelphia. The Home (white) jerseys were worn in a total of 39 games while the Road (blue) jerseys were worn in a total of 39 games. Each individual jersey within the set was worn as allocated by the Pittsburgh Penguins and each jersey should be researched individually to determine exactly when each jersey was worn.
