The Penguins carried over the set of Wilson manufactured / Pittsburgh Sport Shop, Inc. numbered jerseys worn at the end of the 1969-70 season to begin the 1970-71 season. The circular-crested jerseys featured contrasting shoulder yokes and simple stripes on the sleeves and waistline. The jerseys featured lace-up collars with laces threaded through the eyelets and solid navy blue necklines.
The 1970-71 season began a new tradition in the National Hockey League with the home team wearing their light color or white jerseys at home and their dark color jerseys on the road. Also for the first time in league history, names were featured on the back of jerseys above the players' number for team's light color or white home jerseys. The Pittsburgh Penguins wore names on the back of their Home (white) jerseys throughout the entire 1970-71 season.

The Home (white) jerseys were worn in a total of 39 regular season games while the Road (light blue) jerseys were worn in a total of 39 regular season games and one confirmed pre-season game. Each individual jersey within the set was worn as allocated by the Pittsburgh Penguins and each jersey should be researched individually to determine exactly when each jersey was worn.
