the Penguins’ nominee for the 2009 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy,
awarded to the NHL player who “best exemplifies the qualities of
perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey” after his
successful return following two injury-plagued seasons…Posted four goals
and seven points in 24 postseason games, his first career playoffs
points…His four postseason goals tied his regular-season output (twice,
2003-04; 2008-09)…Third in NHL with 46 blocked shots in playoffs…Best
performance came in opening round Game 6 at Philadelphia when he scored
a goal and was a +4 to help Penguins eliminate the Flyers…Finished third
on the team with 148 blocked shots during regular season…Tied a career
high with four goals to go with his five assists and nine points…Scored
first goal as a Penguin Dec. 3 at NY Rangers while playing in his 400th
career game…Played his 100th game as a Penguin Dec. 30 vs.
Boston.
