PITTSBURGH CAREER

 

2003-04: Began the regular season with the Penguins...Appeared in 21 games, posting a 4-14-2 record with a 3.64 GAA, .896 save percentage and one shutout...Was named a star in eight of 21 games...Made his NHL debut in dramatic fashion, stopping 46 of 48 shots, including a penalty shot, in a 3-0 loss, Oct. 10 vs. Los Angeles...Recorded his first NHL shutout, making 20 saves in a 1-0 win, Oct. 30 at Chicago...Played in 17 games with the Penguins before being loaned to Canada's entry at the 2003 World Junion Championships...Played in five games for Team Canada, posting a 4-1-0 record with a 1.81 GAA, helping Canada to the silver medal...Returned to the Penguins and appeared in four games before being returned to Cape Breton (QMJHL)...Appeared in 10 regular season games with Cape Breton, posting an 8-1-1 record with a 1.98 GAA...Appeared in four playoff games with Cape Breton, posting a 1-3 record with a 3.10 GAA...Assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton following the QMJHL playoffs...Made his AHL debut for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in game two of the East Division Semifinals vs. Bridgeport...Started game two and stopped 16 shots in a 5-4 loss...Made a relief appearance in Game 4 of the Calder Cup Finals vs. Milwaukee, stopping eight of nine shots.

2005-06:
The 21-year-old, who was the 2003 first-overall draft choice, showed flashes of brilliance in goal for the Penguins in 2005-06...He backstopped the Penguins in 13 of their 22 wins in 2005-06...Finished with a 3.25 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage in 50 appearances...Recorded one shutout on the season as well...Successful follow-up to his first full professional season in 2004-05 when he recorded Wilkes-Barre/Scranton team records for wins, shutouts, minutes played and games played by a goaltender in regular season...Began the 2005-06 season at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and dominated American Hockey League shooters...In 12 games with the Baby Penguins, he was 10-2 with a 1.57 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage...Re-joined the Baby Penguins for the playoffs and backstopped them to crucial wins in Games 6 and 7 of their first round series against Bridgeport.

2006-07:
Won 40 games which ranked tied for third in the NHL...The 40 wins are the second highest season total in Penguins history to Tom Barrasso's 43 during the 1992-93 season...Set Penguins season records by appearing in 67 games and playing 3,905 minutes...Tied for sixth among NHL goaltenders with five shutouts...All five shutouts were on home ice to set a new Penguins home shutout record...Ranks tied for third on Penguins all-time list with seven shutouts...Won his 57th career Penguins game on April 7th vs. NY Rangers to move into a tie for sixth on the Penguins all-time wins list...Registered his 50th career win on March 10th vs. NY Rangers...Undefeated in regulation (12-0-2) from January 13th to February 16th...Tied a Penguins road unbeaten record of seven games by going 5-0-2 from January 13th to February 16th...Unbeaten in regulation at home (9-0-1) from December 29th to February 14th posting a 1.56 goals-against average during that span and registering three shutouts...Opened the season stopping all 40 shots in a 4-0 shutout of Philadelphia on October 5th, which set an NHL record for the number of saves in an opening-game shutout.

2007-08:
Former No. 1 overall pick (2003) helped Penguins to Stanley Cup Finals in third full NHL season...Quick, agile and athletic 23-year old goaltender went 10-2-2 in final 14 regular season appearances after missing 34 games with high ankle sprain...Won seven straight starts from March 9-30 and was 9-1-1 in the month of March with a 1.44 goals-against average and .951 save percentage...Earned 11th career shutout March 25 vs. New Jersey, tying Les Binkley for second place on all-time club list (Tom Barrasso - 22)...Continued torrid play in Stanley Cup playoffs, starting all 20 games and going 14-6 as Penguins reached Finals vs. Detroit...Led all playoff goaltenders in save percentage (.933), tied for first in wins (14) and finished second in GAA (1.97)...Posted three playoff shutouts, inclduing clinching game against Philadelphia in Eastern Conference Finals (6-0)...Stopped 55 of 58 shots in triple-overtime victory over Red Wings in Game 5 of Stanley Cup Finals at Detroit.

2008-09:
Backstopped his team to Stanley Cup championship after posting a 16-8 record, 2.61 goals-against average and .908 save percentage in 24 postseason games…Posted a 2.25 goals-against average and .924 save percentage in four-game sweep of Carolina Hurricanes in Eastern Conference Finals…Came up with critical saves throughout postseason, including stopping Alexander Ovechkin on a breakaway early Game 7 of conference semifinals at Washington, a Dan Cleary breakaway in Game 6 of Stanley Cup Finals and blanking future Hall of Famer Nicklas Lidstrom with one second left in Game 7 to preserve the Stanley Cup clinching victory…Made 45 saves in Game 4 at Philadelphia in Penguins 3-1 victory…Notched a 35-18-7 record with a 2.67 goals-against average, .912 save percentage and four shutouts in regular season…His 35 wins ranked sixth in the NHL and are the third highest single-season total in Penguins history…Tied a career-high by posting seven consecutive victories from Feb. 25 to Mar. 10 (previously done twice)…Started 29 of team’s final 31 regular season games, including 19 consecutive (Feb. 3 - Mar. 14), going 19-6-4 to help team earn a postseason berth…Second on the Penguins’ all-time wins list with 111 after surpassing Ken Wregget (104) March 17 vs. Atlanta…Notched his 100th career victory March 1 at Dallas…Recorded his 12th career shutout Dec. 26 at New Jersey to move into second place in franchise history…Went 9-1-2 with a 1.87 goals-against average and .930 save percentage in March…Named NHL’s “Second Star” for week of March 2-8 after stopping 92 of 97 shots to go 3-0-0 with a 1.63 GAA and .943 save percentage…Set a new career single-game high with 47 saves Oct. 11 vs. New Jersey…Played his 200th career game on Jan. 13 at Philadelphia.
