PITTSBURGH CAREER


2006-07: Played seven games with the Penguins scoring two goals...Scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 12 vs. NY Rangers at the age of 19...Sidney Crosby (age 19) and Jordan Staal (age 18) also found the back of the net marking the first time a trio of teenagers on one team scored in the same game since October 17, 1982, when Buffalo's Dave Andreychuk, Paul Cyr, and Phil Housley tallied for the Sabres...Spent the remainder of the season with Val d'Or (QMJHL) scoring 52 points (14+38) in 40 games played...Served as team captain and registered a +19 rating...Named QMJHL First Team All-Star...Earned the Emile "Butch" Bouchard Trophy as the QMJHL's best defenseman and the Paul Dumont Trophy (personality of the year) as well as the Kevin Lowe Trophy (top defensive defenseman)...Ranked second in QMJHL playoff scoring and led all defensemen with 31 points (12+19) through 19 games as the club advanced to the QMJHL Finals...Captain for team Canada as it claimed a third-straight gold medal at the 2007 World Junior Championship...Named one of Canada's top three players, finishing the tournament tied for second in defenseman scoring with six points (all assists) in six games...Had 12 penalty minutes and finished with a +4 rating...Selected as on of the tournament's top players...Joined Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for Game 5 of the AHL East Division finals and had one assist in the game.

 

2007-08: Promising defenseman played 63 NHL games as a 20-year old, contributing six goals and 17 points...Also scored five shootout goals - tops among NHL defensemen...
Three of his shootout goals were game-winners...Scored on first four career shootout attempts, including back-to-back game-winners at Calgary Dec. 6 and Vancouver Dec. 8...Played in YoungStars Game at NHL All-Star Weekend...Recorded first career playoff point with assist in Game 3 of conference semifinals vs. NY Rangers...Began regular season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and played 10 AHL games recording seven points (1+6) before being recalled in November.

 

2008:09: Posted 13 points (4+9) in postseason, third most in the NHL by a blueliner...
His first career playoff goal came at critical moment for team in overtime of conference semifinals Game 3 vs. Washington; Letang played through an injury that nearly forced his out of the game; with Pittsburgh trailing the series, 2-0, his overtime tally gave Pittsburgh the victory and new life...In regular season, set new single-season career highs in games played (74), goals (10), assists (23), and points (33)...His goals, assists and points topped all Penguins' defensemen...Played well in the stretch run to help the Penguins clinch a postseason berth with 14 points (5+9) in his last 19 games...Recorded a career-high five-game point/assist streak with one assist in all five contests from Nov. 1-13...Posted his 50th career point (assist) Apr. 5 at Florida...

2009-10: Finished the season with 27 points (3+24) in 73 games...His 24 assists established a career high...Ranked third on the team with an average ice time of 21:33 per contest, while seeing extensive action on the power play and penalty killing units...Second on the team with four shootout goals in 10 attempts...Signed a four-year contract extension Mar. 30 to remain with the team through the 2013-14 season...Appeared in his 200th NHL game, collecting two assists, Mar. 6 vs. Dallas...Led all Penguins defensemen with 174 shots...Established a career high with nine shots on goal Mar. 28 vs. Toronto. 2010 PLAYOFFS: Placed second on the team (tied) and paced all blueliners with five goals...His five tallies tied a frachise postseason high for a defenseman (Larry Murphy, 1991)...Added two assists for seven points...Five goals set a new career single-postseason high...Led team (tied) with four power-play goals...Scored crucial game-winning goal in Game 2 of quarterfinals series vs. Ottawa to even the series at 1-1...Posted five points (3+2) in semifinals against his hometown Montreal Canadiens...Was second (tied) on club with 20 blocked shots...Logged 4:08 power-play minutes per game, second among the team's defensemen.
